The Relationship between Depression and Low Testosterone
Testosterone is a male hormone that contributes to:
- muscle strength
- bone density
- body fat distribution
- sperm production and sex drive
Women also produce it but in lower quantities than men. The depression can be caused if the testosterone level is low.
There are symptoms of lower testosterone and the biggest one can be the sexual desire and function. The erections will be more hard to achieve. If you start gain weight that can be a symptom of low testosterone because it has a role in bone and muscle mass.
When you have low testosterone you can have also a depression but first you need to know If it is really a depression. Some symptoms of the depression are the as those of the low testosterone :
- Sleep problems
- Trouble concentrating
- Low sex drive
- Memory problems
But the physical symptoms are different from the low testosterone problem and the depression. People who have depression but don’t have low hormone level, usually do not experience decreased muscle mass and strength.
If you are not sure of what you have make an appointment with your doctor and he will tell you if you are starting to have a depression or you have low testosterone problems.
Women also have low testosterone and women that have low testosterone almost have every time have depression.
There is a treatment for low testosterone. Hormone replacement therapy is the best way for you to restore the testosterone to normal levels. Syntethic testosterone is available in different forms. But the most common are the injections.
For some men, low testosterone may affect their self-confidence, The memory problems or the trouble concentrating may be some of the contributing factors. Luckily there is a treatment, and the physical side may be solved, but the psychological problems almost every time remain. But there is a treatment for this too. Meditation is used every time when there are sleep problems and anxiety. Also breath exercises are often used for sleep problems and they also can help you clear your mind
Low testosterone may affect everyone differently but that don’t means that there is a strong relation between depression and low testosterone issues. When you experience some of the symptoms that I showed you, there is no need to panic because you can go to a doctor and he will tell you if you have depression or low level testosterone.
